Gérard Lopez – HSR Classic Endurance Championship Presented by Mission Foods 2025 Champion

Gérard Lopez and Marcel Fässler Add a Share of the Vintage Prototype/Sports Racer Championship in the Iconic Racing 1969 No. 27 Lola T70 Mk III to Their Nearly Perfect HSR Win Record

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (December 19, 2025) – Gérard Lopez and Marcel Fässler have been one of the most dominating driver pairings of this decade in HSR competition. Now they have an HSR Classic Endurance Championship presented by Mission Foods title to go along with their nearly perfect HSR Classic race-win record.

Lopez and Fässler grabbed a share of the Vintage Prototype/Sports Racer championship in 2025’s season-ending HSR Classic 24 Daytona 24 Hour presented by Mission Foods with the duo’s third-straight run group win at the “World Center of Racing” in the Iconic Racing 1969 No. 27 Lola T70 Mk III. The Iconic drivers tied in the final division championship standings with HSR stalwart Travis Engen in his GMT Racing 1962 No. 1 Lotus 23B.

In total, Lopez and Fässler have recorded six HSR Classic race wins in just seven race starts since debuting as a duo at the Classic Daytona 24 in 2023. The incredible run includes going undefeated in the Lola at Daytona the last three years and a trio of wins in the team’s ex-JDC Motorsports 2019 No. 5 Cadillac DPi. Lopez and Fässler secured run group wins in the No. 5 at Daytona in 2023 and ’25 and won in the team’s debut in the Cadillac in June’s HSR Classic Watkins Glen Six Hour presented by Mission Foods.

The only blemish on the otherwise perfect record was at Daytona in 2024 when Lopez was uninjured after the Cadillac was taken out of the Classic 24 early Saturday evening in an incident with a GT car in the infield section by pit out.

“I have been lucky to own an F1 team and to experience the highest level of motorsport from the inside,” said Lopez, who purchased the Formula 1 Renault Team in 2009. “I have raced in modern GT championships with Mercedes, Mosler and Porsche, but the truth is that historic racing is the most fun. Just the myriad of cars that we see, drive or compete against is amazing. HSR is for me the ideal environment to experience these cars, and Marcel and I have become friends beyond driving together.”

Lopez scored run group wins previously in the HSR Classic Daytona 24 in 2017 and 2022, but he has achieved his greatest success with Fässler, the semi-retired three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans overall winner with Audi (2011, 2012, and 2014) and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012.

“First of all, I have to say that I have always loved racing in America,” Fässler said. “With HSR, you always feel very welcome, there is a great atmosphere on and off the track. You can really feel a big family coming together to live a shared passion. This also applies to the Iconic Racing team around Gerard Lopez and Florent Moulin. We have a lot of fun together and always look forward to being back at the track.”

The 2026 HSR racing season starts right back at Sebring International Raceway this February 12- 15 with the HSR Sebring Pistons and Props presented by Alan Jay Automotive Network. The popular Pistons & Props event makes a race date swap next year with the HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour presented by Mission Foods, which returns to its traditional December date after one year running this past March the weekend before the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.
