HSR’s Competition Oversight of the Monterey Pre-Reunion and Corkscrew Hillclimb Sets the Stage for Support of This Weekend’s 52nd Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion
MONTEREY, California (August 11, 2026) – Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) returns for the sixth-consecutive year this week at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (WRLS) as the official sanctioning body of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the leading vintage and historic motorsports event in the United States that runs for the 52nd time this Wednesday through Saturday, August 12 – 15, at WRLS.
As it has for the last five years, the HSR team traveled back to Monterey last week to officiate another successful edition of the Monterey Pre-Reunion and Corkscrew Hillclimb. After a quick turnaround, HSR’s established group of historic and vintage motorsports professionals has returned to the job at WRLS for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion through Saturday.

This weekend’s 52nd edition of the blockbuster event will be the first in an extended new agreement between WRLS and HSR officials announced last November that will see HSR continue as the official sanctioning body of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the Monterey Pre-Reunion through at least 2028. Beginning an initial multi-year partnership at the Monterey Reunions in 2021, HSR has grown in its support of the premier historic motorsports celebrations throughout this decade. HSR has provided since its introduction to the Monterey Reunions its ample collective experience and expertise in race event operations, full technical scrutineering, entry vetting and review, competition officiating and additional operational and on-track areas that play a key role in keeping both event weekends run punctually and professionally.

Most of HSR’s team of experienced race officials have worked every Pre-Reunion and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion event since HSR took on the sanctioning role in 2021. Doonan joins the team in Monterey this week after former HSR President and co-owner David Hinton arrived before Pre-Reunion in what has become a familiar role in recent years lending his expertise and guidance to HSR management as HSR Race Chairman for the two historic Monterey events.
The biggest event of the overall Monterey Car Week, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is open only to entries that, through a vetting process in which HSR holds a significant responsibility, have validated authenticity, race provenance and period-correct compliance.
The 2025 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion received for the second time last November the Motorsport Event of the Year Award at the International Historic Motoring Awards (IHMA) ceremony in London. It’s the second time the Monterey blockbuster has been named Motorsport Event of the Year, having previously been awarded the honor in 2022.
