Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) is saddened to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of former IMSA competitor and active HSR racer Chip Romer following a boating
accident in Lake Havasu in Arizona this past weekend.
An avid powerboat and sports car racing competitor, Romer had focused in recent seasons on HSR in a formidable HSR Prototype Challenge presented by Michelin campaign in Ligier JS 315/LS LMP3 cars prepared by his longtime team One Motorsports. He most recently swept the overall and class Prototype Challenge sprint race victories at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta (MRRA) in April’s 48th HSR The Mitty presented by Hagerty and secured second in that weekend’s endurance race. Romer remains atop the Prototype Challenge Am class championship point standings as the series prepares to return to MRRA this week where many will compete in Romer’s honor in the second annual HSR Road Atlanta Classic 10 Hour presented by Mission Foods and the HSR Fall Historics.
Along with our colleagues at IMSA, all of us at HSR extend our deepest condolences to Romer’s family, friends, teammates and co-workers in addition to sending our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of a second occupant on the boat who also was sadly lost in the tragic accident.
