Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) celebrates its motorsports family every HSR race weekend but one group of winning competitors among the most popular in the paddock lives it every day. The Treffert and Myers family are longtime race and championship winning competitors in HSR, and Bill Treffert, Todd Treffert, Dawn Myers, Andrew Myers and Ben Myers reunite again early next month at the HSR Classic Daytona 24 Hour presented by Mission Foods, November 5 – 9 at Daytona International Speedway (DIS).
“Racing is our family time,” said Andrew Myers, who along with his younger brother Ben, is one of two racing sons of Dawn Myers, a quick competitor herself in her sharp 1969 No. 52 Porsche 911 S.
Dawn is the sister of top HSR competitor Todd Treffert, and both are the children of iconic vintage racer Bill Treffert. Andrew and Ben learned everything they know about racing from their Mother, championship-winning Uncle, and Grandfather, the patriarch of this fast-lane family.
“Our grandfather is really the one who makes this all possible,” Andrew Myers said. “We appreciate everything he does, and it is great being able to race with him.”
The five family members representing three generations of the Treffert and Myers clan first raced together in vintage and historic competition five years ago. They began racing as a family in the ChampCar Endurance series in 2014 – where Andrew and Ben gained experience while learning to race – and then made the move to vintage and historic competition with the rest of the family with HSR and the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association (VSCDA) at the family’s home track at Road America in September of 2020.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, sanctioning bodies were working together to complete their racing seasons, and VSCDA helped HSR restart its racing season with an invitation to join them at the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival (ELVF) XXXV. It was the perfect opportunity for the Treffert and Myers family, who are originally from Wisconsin, to race together at their home track. All still maintain their Wisconsin roots, but most of the family members have also branched out to Florida as a primary or secondary residence in recent years.
Bill Treffert, now in his 80s, has been racing for more than 25 years, while Todd has been at it for a good 20 years himself. Bill Treffert drives his pristine black 1960 No. 24 Corvette C1 roadster at Daytona. His son, in the hunt for an HSR Classic Endurance Championship presented by Mission Foods title, competes in the Classic 24 in his 1974 No. 41 Porsche 911 Carrera Cup RSR “Baby” Turbo and in the weekend’s Daytona Historics races in his unique 2000 No. 21 Nissan GTR.
After several successful seasons driving historic Sports 2000s in HSR, Andrew and Ben moved up to HSR Mission GT Challenge competition this year and have continued their winning ways and podium showings in a pair of Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup cars. Andrew competes in a 2018 No. 51 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup while Ben drives the 2017 No. 29 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The 901 Shop prepares all of the cars in the Treffert and Myers family stable.
