Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Celebrates Fifth Anniversary as Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Sanctioning Body at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, California (August 12, 2025) – Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) celebrates its fifth anniversary this week at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as the official sanctioning body of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the premier historic and vintage motorsports event in North America that takes place August 13 – 16.

The HSR team returned to Monterey last week to assist in the successful running of the Monterey Pre-Reunion and Corkscrew Hillclimb. The HSR group of primarily experienced historic and vintage motorsports professionals continues straight through this Saturday’s final day of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

The majority of the returning HSR officials this weekend has worked every Pre-Reunion and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion event since HSR took on the sanctioning role in 2021, but this year the HSR team operates under the new leadership of HSR President John Doonan. Adding HSR’s oversight to his more familiar role as IMSA President at the beginning of this year, Doonan continues the great work and leadership of David Hinton, who was a co-owner and previous President of HSR for more than a decade before guiding the sale of the sanctioning body to IMSA early in 2022.

Hinton was also the main driving force in establishing HSR’s relationship with the Reunion weekends and remains close to both the Monterey events and HSR. He was part of HSR’s management team at last week’s Pre-Reunion in preparation for Doonan to join the close-knit HSR team this week.

“HSR is a key partner in hosting these two incredible back-to-back racing events, ” said April Henderson, Director of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Monterey Pre-Reunion and Corkscrew Hillclimb. “Their depth of experience pairs seamlessly with our raceway team to help provide a wonderful experience for our competitors, race teams and guests.”

The biggest event of the overall Monterey Car Week, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is open only to entries that, through a vetting process of which HSR fills a key role, have validated authenticity, race provenance and period-correct compliance.

HSR also provides again this year its ample collective experience and expertise in race event operations, full technical scrutineering and other operational and competition areas that play a key role in helping the blockbuster events run smoothly.

“After last weekend’s outstanding Monterey Pre-Reunion we are completely primed and motivated to do our part in making this the best Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion to date,” Doonan said. “We are honored at HSR to be celebrating our fifth year of operation at the Reunion events and want to thank everyone at Friends of Laguna Seca for continuing to make us feel welcomed and part of their team for both the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Pre-Reunion. It is also a privilege to be welcomed back by all of the competitor participants. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and the non-stop excitement and energy you feel from the moment you first walk through the gates at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca stays strong throughout the more than week-long schedule. As always, it is an honor and we are grateful at HSR to be a part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.”
