Hsr Daytona 2024 3215

Gray Gregory: 1962 – 2025

HSR joins the global vintage and historic motorsports community in remembering our dear friend, champion and fellow HSR member Gray Gregory, a top and winning competitor, and a gracious and true gentleman both on the track and in the paddock. Standing out even among HSR’s accomplished legions of talented competitors, Gray, his teammates and co-drivers Randy Buck and Ethan Shippert, were honored at the 10th running of this past November’s HSR Daytona Classic 24 Hour presented by Mission Foods as the top team and drivers in the first decade of HSR Classic competition.

Gray and his team won a record seven different HSR Classic races since the Classic 24 kicked off HSR’s premier lineup of endurance races in 2014. Part of Gray’s record run was putting together an unchanged winning group that had the distinction of being the first to win all three of the then current HSR Classic races at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen with the same 1974 No. 26 Chevron B26 team and driver lineup.

Even better, Gray and Buck earned their first HSR Classic 24 Run Group A victory back in the second running of the race in 2015 in Gregory’s No. 44 1971 Chevron B16, which was also the car of choice for the team’s final HSR Classic run together last November.

Gray was a talented and diverse competitor, and very active in Historic Formula 1 as well, but his HSR Classic success was a particularly proud achievement. It’s hard to find a picture of him without his Classic 24 hat, a favorite at any event around the world.

Gray passed away at his home in Pattison, Texas this past Sunday, July 20, after a courageous battle with ALS. We send our deepest sympathy and condolences to Gray’s wife, Heidi, and their daughter, Piper, and everyone else who will miss his love, kindness, class and gentleman character on and off the track, like all of us will at HSR.

A memorial service will be held on August 2, 2025, at Pattison United Methodist Church 3711 Avenue H, Pattison, TX 77466.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Gray’s name may be directed to Pattison United Methodist Church and the Royal FFA “Gregory Fund CTE Scholarship.”
