HSR debuts a new event this fall at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) with the HSR VIR Historics Weekend, September 4 – 7, and HSR’s Group 4 division for open-wheel single seaters is stepping into the spotlight. The open-wheel group has been a longtime fixture on select HSR weekends, and VIR itself even has a relatively recent history of stout single-seater entries.
The new VIR Historics date brings HSR to town later in the year than the most recent trio of HSR race weekends at the track held on or around Memorial Day weekend from 2016 through 2018. The most recent event weekend in ’18 attracted a solid selection of open-wheel machinery representing several different classes within Group 4.
An even larger entry is the goal for this September, and event entry registration and the initial batch of overall information on the race is available now on the official VIR Historics Event Page.
The packed VIR Historics will also see the HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Goodyear get some race-weekend headliner time of its own with Round Five of this year’s six doubleheader race weekends on the schedule. Just on the border of North Carolina, VIR is in a “target rich” location due to the sheer number of NASCAR Classic eligible cars in the surrounding and nearby region.
The return engagement brings HSR NASCAR Classic back to the track where the series premiered last year in a support role to the IMSA Michelin GT Challenge.
Now, NASCAR Classic and Group 4 head to VIR in a featured role alongside a full and season-championship points weekend of HSR WeatherTech Sprint and B.R.M. Endurance Challenge races and features series such as the SascoSports International/American Challenge presented by Hoosier and HSR Global GT.
Next up on the overall HSR calendar is HSR NASCAR Classic presented by Goodyear on the Go Bowling at The Glen weekend of NASCAR competition at Watkins Glen International, August 8 – 10. This year’s race marks the third-straight appearance for HSR historic stock cars on the New York track’s NASCAR weekend following last year’s NASCAR Classic debut and a demonstration race in 2023.
