WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 14, 2025) – A rivalry renewed delivered a thriller of a finish at Watkins Glen International where Pierce Marshall and Eric Foss co-drove the Matador Motorsports 2017 No. 02 Cadillac DPi to their second-straight HSR Prototype Challenge presented by Michelin victory of the season late Thursday afternoon at the third annual HSR Watkins Glen Classic 6 Hour presented by Mission Foods.

After a convincing and largely controlled Prototype Challenge victory at the 47th HSR The Mitty presented by Hagerty in April, Marshall and Foss admittedly were challenged this weekend at The Glen.

The competition came in the form of the returning Bob Neapole and Guy Cosmo in the RBN Motorsports with Cosmo-Sport 2020 No. 60 Acura ARX-05 prepared by Hudson Historics. After a victory in the Acura to open the season at Sebring International Raceway, Neapole and Cosmo returned to their LMP3 car with Hudson Historics at The Mitty where they won the P3 class and finished third overall.

The P1-class Acura DPi was the car of choice for the HSR Classic 6 Hour weekend, however, and opening driver Neapole and his coach and co-driver Cosmo were the pacesetters for the majority of Thursday’s 90-minute race.

Cosmo and Marshall’s professional driver teammate Foss were tasked to bring each car to the finish, and a field-tightening caution with just 10 minutes to go set the stage for a final fight to the checkered flag. With Cosmo leading the field to the line for the restart, Foss began an immediate charge to reel in the Acura.

The Acura and Cadillac took the white flag nose-to-tail and Foss made his move going into Turn 1 to pull off a pass that proved to be the winning one. The No. 02 crossed the finish line a scant 0.640 ahead of the Acura as Cosmo kept the pressure on to the finish.

Third overall went to the debuting duo of Matt Graham and Jake Latham who scored the P3-class win in their series debut in the 2020 No. 31 Ligier JS P320. Graham and Latham, who was running his first race in an LMP3 car, also served as the majority of the crew for the debut effort along with a hard-working group of friends and fellow motorsports colleagues.

Fourth overall and first in the P2 division went to returning driver Robert Tornello in his Hudson Historics

2014 No. 90 Coyote Corvette Daytona Prototype. It was Tornello’s first race in HSR in several seasons, although he clearly showed a couple years out of the car did little to slow him down. Tornello’s Corvette DP is the same car his son Dante Tornello drove to the Run Group C victory in the inaugural running of the HSR Watkins Glen Classic 6 Hour presented by Mission Foods in 2023.

Other Prototype Challenge podium players at The Glen included Dave House and Mikel Miller in the 2016 No. 86 Ligier JS P315 prepared by One Motorsport and the CB Motorsports 2017 No. 18 Ligier JS P315 of Matt Forbush and Tom Long.

House and Miller overcame an overnight engine change for fifth overall and second in P3 while Forbush and Long shook off some issues of their own to secure third in P3 and sixth in the overall order.

Runner-up honors in the P2 category went to the 2009 No. 018 Oreca FLM09 Prototype Challenge car of Wayne Jackson who co-drove with Wally Owens, the P2-class winning co-driver at The Mitty. Jackson and Owens finished seventh overall.

Next up on the HSR Prototype Challenge presented by Michelin schedule is Round 4 of the 2025 championship at the HSR VIR Historics at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), September 4 – 7.

Pierce Marshall, Driver – No. 02 Matador Motorsports Cadillac Dallara DPi: “I will be completely honest, the yellow completely saved us in this race. To Bob’s credit, he’s getting more and more comfortable in the car, and he trusted his car a little better in the race than I did. That allowed him to build a good gap, he did a great job there and just stayed consistent on lap time. I tried to catch him a little bit, but it was difficult. We did what we could in terms of pitting at the same time they did, and I can’t thank Eric enough for his drive and great coaching. And thanks again always to HSR for putting on such a phenomenal event. This is multi-class prototype racing, just like what the big boys do, and we couldn’t be happier to be doing it ourselves.”

Eric Foss, Driver – No. 02 Matador Motorsports Cadillac Dallara DPi: “”First off, hats off to Matador Motorsports. The support they give us and the car they gave us is phenomenal. We’ve been struggling just a little on pace compared to the No. 60 car. When we had clear laps, we could get a couple 1/10ths here and there, and I was doing all I could to hang with them. At the end, we got traffic, and it just worked out perfectly. I was able to set up a run coming on the front straight. We went three wide down into turn one and I just made it stick. Just so thankful. I mean, it’s so cool at this point in my career to drive like the coolest race car ever. These Cadillac DPIs are just phenomenal. We’re over 3Gs in several corners here, and I don’t even know what the average lap speed is, but it’s got to be 120 to 130 mph. It’s insane but so cool.”

Bob Neapole, Driver – No. 60 RBN Motorsports with Cosmo-Sport ARX-05: “Thank you so much to the team and everyone supporting us. I have to say, there’s no more fun than to race with these guys and have this battle royale every time we get together. Frankly, it doesn’t really matter who’s on the top step, but they absolutely deserve it, they got this one. It’s just fun to go at it head-to-head. It’s a blast, and this wonderful environment of HSR is really unique. It’s a unique environment, and that’s super difficult to find.”

Guy Cosmo, Driver – No. 60 RBN Motorsports with Cosmo-Sport ARX-05: “It goes to show that we are racing flat out until the very end of the race. Congratulations to the Matador guys. We had an outstanding competition going here, and we’re all pushing ourselves so hard. These cars are so capable, so fast. We’re learning how to drive them and how to extract more. I don’t want to tell anybody on the team, but it’s getting a little scary! The speeds this thing carry is like ‘Wow,’ and Bob is learning and getting impressively fast. His breakthroughs each weekend this year are phenomenal. He’s going to be coaching me soon!”

Robert Tornello, Driver – No. 90 Hudson Historics Coyote Corvette DP: “”It’s the family atmosphere to me that lured me back. It’s an absolute blast with these guys who have always been a family to me. We have great races, great dinners and the competitors overall share the same values, which is you have fun but be respectful to each other and come back and do it again. I left for a while, but I had to make up my mind: do I stay out of racing, or do I come back? And I had to come back because I just missed it too much. I’m honored to be here, honored to be here with these guys and to be able to get back up on the podium. It was absolutely a blast doing this endurance race by myself. It feels like a proper race and this series and HSR really are the real deal.”

Matt Graham, Driver – No. 31 Ligier JS P320: “Watkins Glen is bucket list. This is world class. Jake and I have been racing together for probably 20 years, and this opportunity came up to get an LMP3 car, and we were like, ‘well, we’re going to bring it to HSR, we’re going to do this championship where they’ve got some really cool machinery out there and some great drivers.’ People are really respectful, racing but just having fun, which is what we’re looking for. This is our first time out in this championship. We’ve both driven cars like this a bit in the past, but this is the first time in this car and certainly at this track. We got lucky when the caution fell the way that we needed, and the nice thing about our partnership in the car is that we’re sort of within the same second or so. We’re really consistent in terms of times. We’re not the quickest, but between the two of us, it’s pretty close.”

Jake Latham, Driver – No. 31 Ligier JS P320: “This was my first race in an LMP3 car, period. The fastest thing I’ve raced until now was pretty much a Radical. That’s a big step, and I’ve wanted to drive an LMP3 car for nearly 10 years, or ever since I first saw one. I was like, ‘I just got to jump into one of those someday, it would be amazing.’ And it was!”
